Major problem

This was a good app but it no longer works. I was charged an additional $3.49 this month as it said I only had a trial of it which wasnt true. Even after being charged it still doesnt work. It says I have to re purchase. Very disappointing. Dont buy it!

Update ruined database

The new update features shelf, but it only ruined my original databank. I reinstalled, but the Shelf function only display the authors in that mode but not for the books! Trash for now. By the way, the Dropbox backup never worked, TOO.

very useful

Been using this books DB app for several years now and it just keeps getting better.

Great!

Very useful! Great capacity. Love the different options avail. I can keep track of books I own, the ones I get from the library, the ones I borrow or lend & what Im currently reading. Love it!

Excellent app !

Ive been using this app for over a year and am very happy with it. It does what I want. Keeps track of what Ive read. Reads books by bar code to avoid all the typing.

Love it!!!

Absolutely love this app! Best way to keep track of my inventory

dont do it

Glitch, crash - whatever you want to call it - save your time and dont bother with this app. Fed up.

Dropbox does not work

I find that Dropbox does not work with this app. Dropbox does work with other similar apps though. So the issue seems to be with this app.

Excellent organizer!

I have used this app since it came out and have NEVER really had a problem. I encountered a glitch with the scanner and the app creator responded the same day with a fix. That is the only problem I have ever had & I run it on an iPhone 4S, an iPod 5 & an iPad2. It works perfectly. I have about three thousand books entered now - physical books, e-books and audiobooks. I love the details I can add into the database. This is a fantastic tool for keeping your home library organized. You can do bulk ISBN scans, or enter manually. I use the scan method almost all of the time and bought the scanning app they recommend. It works much better than the in-app scanner. I love that it is possible to adapt the database fields! I think I have tried all of the apps in this category and can honestly say this is the very best in the apple store.

As advertised

Book Crawler simply works. No bugs, no issues; Ive been able to catalogue almost 900 books so far without any problems. Recommend.

Grrr argh!

Wont allow me to purchase the full app which is frustrating because this does precisely what I want it to but I cant add more titles until I have the full app.

Deterioration

I’ve been using this app for a while now and for most of this time, I’ve been satisfied. However, recent updates have made using the app unpleasant for me; enough to deter me from purchasing their Mac app. And now, compelling me to write a review and look for an alternative. I’m now peppered with messages letting me know weird things that don’t have any bearing on what I’m doing. For example, just now I got a ‘location services are not available f…’ message, but there are numerous others as well. As an aside, I have no idea what is supposed to follow the ‘f…’. While I don’t find any of the messages to be pertinent, I could deal with them if they were well integrated into the screen. But they’re not. They’re overlaid over a section of screen that’s already there to provide other information but is now obscured. I get other stuff that I don’t want to see, for example, I accidentally opened a book record and then when I tapped the ‘cancel’, it stops and asks me if I want to save my changes. I didn’t make any changes. What I want is to exit the screen. After some other issues, I quit the app and re-launched it and they all went away, but now I’m hit with a ‘sign-in to itunes store’ modal dialogue. Even hitting the home button does nothing with this on the screen. If I cancel, I can’t add another book as I suddenly have the trial version. I’m sick of all the sign-in dialogues that I’m seeing lately, and always getting them at launch makes the app awful to use. The worst new development is the Filter/Sort function. It just won’t go away. The filter/sort bar takes up key real estate at the top of the screen and is constantly expanding to take up half the screen. And for some reason, whenever you scroll to the top of the screen, it reloads the filter/sort box. I searched through the documentation to see if there is a way to disable or remove this or just put it away for a while but I found nothing.

Excellent app

Just what I needed to track all my books from childhood forward.

Bookcrawler review

Very disappointed as the app has crashed a few times and Ive lost everything or most. Very time consuming having to re scan every book back in. Have not scanned books as Im discouraged and looking for something better.

Poorly designed and crashes

Sorry, this is a non starter. Good idea, just doesnt work well.

What I was looking for

It does seem a bit glitch-prone, but it has all the features I was looking for. I especially like being able to add my own notes about a book without having to post them online. I add books Ive read by searching for the ISBN, which loads the pertinent information. Then I just add my notes, the date I read it, and who recommended it to me. Im glad that it backs up to DropBox, as it seems a bit unstable. No crashes for me so far.

Good app

I would have rated this higher if it had an easier way of entering ebooks borrowed from the library. Wish Id had it sooner for those quick easy reads that are good at the time but quickly forgotten. Nov 3 update I miss the ability to search by typing. Also on the mini ipad the ISBN field is hidden making it hard to enter. Feb 2016 This app still works great for me. The previous complaint about the hidden ISBN field has been fixed. Ive also found work arounds for DRM protected library books, getting the ISBN from other sources Sep 2016. Still working well. I just discovered something Id like to see. A choice for an alternate title. I used the subtitle field.

Excellent App

I have use this app since it came out, about four or five years I believe. With the exception of one little problem years ago with a update to a version of iOS, it has proved to be an excellent way to keep track of books read, favourite books, favourite authors and reviews from Goodreads.

Crashing on start up

Also no help menu for scanning ( lite version ) done it but still dont know how it worked?!!

Amazing!

This is really a must have for anyone who wants to catalog their books. The app itself is very useful, not to mention the connection & import from goodreads, but the support of the developer is extraordinary. I definitely recommend it!
